I’ve always been drawn to 19th century fashion. There’s just something about those prints, the full skirts, the cleveage! And while I pride myself on my confidence and general “wear what you want, fuck people’s opinions” I just can’t picture myself strutting into Trader Joes in layers of traditional full skirts, a corset and a feather in my hair.

While visiting Filoli gardens a couple of weeks ago, I was on the hunt for any Bridgerton inspired outfits I could wear to really channel my inner nerd, and lover of old-world style. Corset tops, puff sleeve mini dresses with a square neckline, a comfy nap dress to wear on the couch while watching Bridgerton for the 4th time…
Daphne Bridgerton of course had an amazing costume designer, but all the regency ladies in the Netflix show were dressed so well. As a redhead, I was really into all the yellow Penelope Featherington wore, a stark difference from the blues, pinks and whites most of the other women sported.
The day before my visit to the gardnes, I spent WAY too much time at the mall trying to find anything that had a corset front, or big puffy sleeves that were in my size. I failed, HARD. I eventually found this white top with a corset-tie front, but it was too large. And this purple mini dress with modern puffy sleeves and a slight square neckline to hint at Bridgerton, but still is modern and fun. Paired with a straw hat and my white wedding heels, I think I pulled off a modern Bridgerton inspired outfit for the gardens under the less than 24 hour time frame I had!
