Minimalist Makeup Routine: 6 Products To Replace Them All

I go through makeup phases. Some months you can find me going ham on the primers, 6 carefully blended eyeshadow colors, brow gel, setting spray, lip liner – the whole shazam. And then other times, like right now, I’m into a few key minimal makeup essentials that work hard for me. So I can be in and out of the bathroom and onto much more important things… like watching Gilmore Girls reruns because what else am I going to do in 2020?

Take a look at what’s in my minimalist makeup bag of the moment – you’ll love these 6 products that have made my morning beauty routine quick but look *chef kiss* so good.

Minimalist Makeup Routine: 6 Products To Replace Them All

6 products to replace them all… yes that’s a Lord of the Rings reference for you fellow nerds. Anyways, this simple minimal makeup collection creates the perfect natural face that’s dewy and romantic. For much of 2020, I wasn’t wearing makeup at home but recently I’ve been having both more Zoom calls than normal, but also I found myself needing to switch things up and feel like I’m getting ready for something even though I’m not leaving my apartment.

I started getting dressed & ready each day, sharing it on Stories to encourage others to spend a whole week *actually* getting ready. It helps a ton with mental health, lemme tell you.

But a full makeup artist level routine won’t work for me right now. I’m writing this in the fall season, and the changing weather about this time of year also makes my skin go a little cray cray. I have to tone down everything to a minimalist makeup look and I’ve finally nailed down the best beauty products. I love the ones that can double (or even triple) for multiple basic makeup looks so I can cut down on the amount of product I own and buy. Here’s my favorites:

1. evanhealy Tinted Oil Serum Foundation

This tinted oil serum is perfect for a simple everyday makeup look that’s powerful and hydrating. I’m usually wary of super oily foundations – despite having dry skin that will suck the moisture out of anything with glee, oily foundations or creams tend to break me out. But not this serum!

It goes on smooth and evens out skin tone quickly. It has rosehip,  jojoba and broccoli seed oil (which acts as a natural alternative to silicones) so these ingredients work hard to produce a smooth application that keeps skin hydrated all day. No need to also stock up on primers, bb cream AND an undereye cream. I wear a 20 right now, though depending on my sun exposure throughout the winter, I may have to swap to a 15 in a few months.

2. evanhealy Color Bomb

This is a cream blush that I also use sometimes as a lipstick when in a pinch, making it an awesome addition to anyone’s minimalist travel makeup bag or everyday makeup looks. This colored balm uses tinted pigments into argan oil, rosehip oil, and organic beeswax so it goes on smooth and blends nicely. I use my the pads of my fingers to gently apply this blush hue to cheeks or lips.

3. Vapour Bronzer Stick

I’ll be honest – I don’t wear bronzer every day but when I do want that extra contouring and sunkissed look, I always reach for my Vapour Bronzer Stick. The product is creamy, like the blush above, and the stick is rounded so it can easily sweep across the dips of your face to smooth control. It’s made  WITHOUT Silicone, Dimethicone, Polyacrylamide or Ethanolamine (so it’s good for your skin and planet.)

4. evanhealy Glow Bomb

I’m a firm believer that every good simple makeup look needs a highlighter. There’s something so ethereal about the sun catching your highlighter and making your cheekbones POP. I have a few favorites but when I’m doing a face with a lot of products from one brand, I like to keep it in the family as much as I can. evanhealy has a few shades of their Glow Balm, I use their Elysium Glow Balm since it fits my skin tone well. I apply just like with their color balm using my fingers.

5. BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara

If I had to only pick two makeup products to wear forever, it would be a BB cream ora tinted oil like above, and a great mascara. I really love Benefit’s mascaras – their formulas go on without being chunky and I love their brush shapes. I’m not loyal to a specific Benefit mascara brush, but I am currently using their BADgal BANG! Volumizing Mascara and really loving how natural it makes my lashes look. They pop, but it’s not like “wow, you put on a lot of mascara today” pop.

6. evanhealy Brow Balm

Lastly, the brows! Brows can be tricky since sometimes you need both the pigment AND a setting balm or wax to keep the hairs in place. I find that the evanhealy Brow Balm fills the role of both nicely, helping me cut down on the amount of products I use and getting me one step closer to the perfect minimalist makeup kit.

I use the Blonde shade as my eyebrows are pretty thin and light to start with. I use a cue tip to dab on a bit of color to pull my whole face together. It goes on smooth but doesn’t feel cakey throughout the day like other brow sticks I’ve used.

How To Do Minimalist Makeup: Start With Good Skincare

Of course, a really great minimal makeup routine heavily relies on a great really skincare routine first. In the winter I love using Olay’s Renengirst Cream to hydrate hydrate hydrate. I also adore almost everything from the Versed Skincare line at Target (so affordable yet powerful!)

Drunk Elephant has some amazing face masks, and Hers has the best acne cream out there if you find yourself breaking out during the holiday season (*ahem wine and cookies ahem*)

And as you can tell, I’m a fan of evanhealy and swear by their Hydrosol mist, especially in fall or winter months where the heater can dry your skin out. Keep by your desk and spritz throughout the day!

I hope this helps you find some new products to try when building out your minimalist makeup routine. If you have a favorite product that didn’t make this list, drop a comment below so everyone can see! Got questions? Comment or DM me on Instagram @thewhimsysoul and I’ll be happy to help.
