Inside Mendocino’s Brewery Gulch Inn

You may miss the turn for the Brewery Gulch‘s driveaway. The inn is tucked behind trees so you can’t easily spot it from the road, but somehow (maybe by magic?) all the rooms and back lawn have a view of the ocean. Each evening, golden hour floods the entire place with warm, brilliant light.

Location: Mendocino, CA
Type: B&B Inn
IG Rating: 3/5 aesthetics
Good For: Couples

Robin and I love coming up to Mendocino at least once a year – there’s something about this place that instantly relaxes a person. Perhaps it’s the lack of cell service in many areas of the region? Or the insanely blue waters against the striking rugged coastline. After learning Brewery Gulch Inn recently won new awards, we decided to go see what all the buzz was about for ourselves.

Brewery Gulch Inn was named one of the world’s top 100 hotels by Travel + Leisure Magazine.

What sets Brewery Gulch Inn apart from other area hotels is the focus on food and socializing. There’s a complimentary nightly happy hour and you’ll probably find yourself chatting with other guests while taking in the sunset views. The refills are plentiful, which helps to fuel good conversation.

Take your wine to the porch to watch the sunset dip over the ocean.

At breakfast you’ll see the same faces from happy hour before, maybe even you’ll choose to sit at the same table to sip coffee and feast together on a gourmet meal. There’s an in-house chef that cooks all orders fresh, with items like Huevos Rancheros, Millionaire Bacon and French Toast. Probably the best B&B breakfast we’ve ever had.

Each night the beer selection at happy hour (about 6) stays the same but the wines (4) are swapped out so you can’t ever really get bored. It’s basically like a mini wine tasting each evening! Brewery Gulch Inn also has partnerships with a few wineries in Anderson Valley and they’ll email you a list of places that guests can wine taste for free on the way up. Just one of the amenities of the hotel!

Our room had this view above from our porch. We loved turning on the fireplace in the evening and cozying up with an audiobook. The perfect way to end a day in my favorite little seaside city!

I hope you enjoy your time in Mendocino! We love this area of California and keep finding ourselves back again and again. If you have any questions about the inn or Mendo, leave a comment or DM us on Instagram @thewhimsysoul!
