My two favorite times of year to shop mega sales are July 4th and of course, November for all the Black Friday / Holiday sales. While I snap up fun clothes and accessories year-round, I always hold off on big purchases (or boring ones like restocking towels) for this time of the year.
This year, I got ourselves a new fancy vacuum, kitchen things, tons of bathroom towels and other really boring but totally necessary adulting items – all on Macy’s pre-July 4th sale and saved about $400!!

Our first Black Friday after moving to San Francisco nearly 5 years ago was when we still had a totally empty apartment (and small bank accounts because we just moved!) Thanks to mega Black Friday sales we were actually able to afford an actual bed. Before we were sleeping on a futon mattress!
Since then, I have truly realized the power of holiday sales and now, over the course of the year, make mental notes of the items that just make sense to buy on sale. I usually shop household items, things like new frying pans to replace the ones we wore out over the past 12 months, or bathroom towels or pillowcases. Things I wait on buying until the price is right.
Of course, if I’m in need of clothing, like swimsuits or sweaters, July 4th sales are also the perfect time to stock up for upcoming seasons! This year, the Macy’s sale and Target sales are the best to stock up on everything you need for your home!
